Tabby is a very special cat to our family. Shaughn picked her out, all by himself, when he was 18 months old during an adoption event at our local Humane League. She tolerated him but wasn't overly fond of an infant climbing all over her. When Shaughn was 2 he was diagnosed with Autism and we discovered that she was our key to him. He knew she wouldn't stay near him if he screamed so she became his source of comfort during a meltdown. Because of his unique bond with animals it was suggested we get him a service dog and brought home his collie, Scarlett.

Her Royal Tabbyness

This past Christmas I found a half starved cat in a pile of blankets on my porch. I took her in and we named her Sandy, bc Shaughn insisted she was from Sandy Claus. She was with us for 2 weeks. Her and Shaughn were the best of friends. He sat stroking her for hours and would just talk with her (keep in mind her was classified as non-verbal until very recently). They napped together, Sandy stayed in his crib at night...sadly we lost her to a stroke and it almost broke my heart. We were afraid of the impact it would have on Shaughn, when our miracle happened...Tabby took up right where Sandy left off. She climbed into his crib each night and has continued to do so.

The other amazing thing about Miss Tabby is that she lets us know when Shaughn is going to have a seizure. She more than earns her kibble each day and is worth her considerable weight in gold to us
